What's This?

If you’re in need of a drone upgrade, then you’re in luck—DJI recently announced the launch of the Mavic 4 Pro, which comes with a rather versatile set of features that makes it ideal for pro-level videography and imaging. Priced starting at €2,100, DJI has packed a ton of functionality into its new drone.

One key feature built into the Mavic 4 Pro is its 360° “Infinity Gimbal”, which can rotate a full 360 degrees for more versatile angles when capturing images and video, in addition to a 70° upward tilt capability. With that in mind, the Mavic 4 Pro’s gimbal system houses a triple-camera array with a primary camera that features a 100MP Hasselblad lens with a large Four Thirds sensor that allows for wide dynamic range and better low-light performance. Paired with a 28mm lens, the main module also supports adjustable aperture ranging from f/2.0 to f/11.

The main shooter is accompanied by two telephoto lenses consisting of a 48MP medium telephoto camera with a 1/1.3” sensor and a 70mm lens, and an upgraded 50MP long telephoto module with a larger 1/1.5” sensor and a longer 168mm lens (boasting a bright f/2.8 aperture), a nice improvement over the previous generation’s telephoto capabilities. All three cameras support professional-grade 10-bit D-Log, D-Log M, and HLG color profiles, which adds some much-welcome flexibility for colour grading.

Each camera is also capable of capturing 4K/60fps HDR video with at least 13 stops of dynamic range, and the Hasselblad main camera comes with up to 6K/60fps video recording and a up to 16 stops of dynamic range. For capturing captivating slow-motion sequences, the main and medium telephoto cameras offer 4K/120fps modes, while the long telephoto lens can go up to 4K/100fps.

Powering the Mavic 4 Pro is a 95Wh battery, which on paper should provide extended flight times of up to 51 minutes. The drone can also reach top speeds of 90km/h, and DJI has added an upgraded O4+ transmission system with an extended control range of up to 41 kilometres. DJI adds that even at a range of up to 30 kilometres, the system will still be able to transmit high-quality 10-bit HDR video. The drone is also equipped with six fisheye cameras with dual processors that are responsible for navigation and collision avoidance algorithms.

DJI says that this enables omnidirectional obstacle avoidance at speeds of up to 65km/h, even in dimly lit environments. The drone will be able map its surroundings, allowing for a reliable return-to-home function even in scenarios where GPS reception is less than ideal. There’s also an enhanced ActiveTrack 360° system that can remain locked-on even if the subject is temporarily partially obscured, and can detect and track vehicles from distances of up to 200 meters.

Alongside the drone, DJI also unveiled the new DJI RC Pro 2 remote controller, which comes with a 7-inch mini-LED display, 128GB of built-in storage, battery life of up to four hours, an on-board microphone alongside the ability to pair with a DJI Mic as well.

The Mavic 4 Pro is compatible with the new Parallel Charging Hub which can charge up to three batteries simultaneously, prioritizing the battery with the lowest charge level until all batteries reach a balanced state, after which they are charged equally. It can also function as a powerful 100W power bank so users can charge their other devices such as smartphones, laptops, and other compatible devices.

The DJI Mavic 4 Pro starts at €2,100 for buyers in Europe, which includes the drone with 64GB of storage, one battery, and the standard DJI RC 2 remote controller. There’s also a €2,700 bundle which adds two additional flight batteries, a 100W USB-C power adapter, the Parallel Charging Hub, and a shoulder bag for transportation. Finally, there’s a Creator Combo that goes for €3,540 with 512GB of built-in storage, a DJI RC Pro 2 controller, a 240W power adapter, and a USB C-to-C data cable.
