What's This?

DJI recently announced the launch of its new Flycart 100 (dubbed the FC100), a drone that goes beyond the usual aerial-photography-feature-set seen on most of DJI’s previous models. This time around, the company has designed a drone with hardware that’s made for heavy industry use as well as emergency and response situations, something that’s not often seen from the likes of DJI.

Let’s start with its build and design—while the FC100 might look like a regular old drone at first, DJI has designed it to be able to better withstand the elements. The machine is designed to be both water and dust resistant with an IP55 rating, and it can also withstand temperatures from -20°C, up to 40°C. Additionally, the drone is designed to work in conditions with 12 m/s speeds, and altitudes of up to 6,000 meters. For software, the FC100 fully works with the new DJI Delivery App, which features A-B Route Operation Mode and AR Display.

As mentioned earlier, the FC100 is designed to carry heavy loads—DJI says that the drone is built to be able to transport payloads with a maximum of up to 100 kg; it actually features a new wing design as well as larger, high-torque motors this time around, which allows it to support much heavier packages. The company adds that the FC100 is able to carry up to 65 kg for a distance of 12 km, or 80 kg for up to 6 km. For navigation, the FC100 uses LiDAR for terrain mapping, in addition to mmwave Radar and a penta-vision system to help it move around more safely and efficiently.

The drone can run on a single or dual-battery setup, with support for hot-swappable battery packs for instant power supply. Each battery weighs in at 14.7 kg with a capacity of 41 Ah, and there’s also support for fast-charging capabilities. DJI has also included an integrated parachute, in addition to a winch system with a 30-meter cable and electric hook, both of which should come in handy for more demanding situations.

Given its more industrial-grade capabilities, the DJI FC100 is unsurprisingly on the more expensive side of things, especially when compared to DJI’s other offerings. The FC100 is now on sale starting at around $12,500, and is available via authorized DJI partners worldwide.
