Not too long after the debut of the NEO 2 drone, DJI has now added a new expansion to its action camera lineup with the new Osmo Action 6. With that in mind, it does pack some pretty neat hardware and software improvements, which include a larger sensor and a variable aperture, a first for the Action series. What else does it come with though? Let’s take a look.

The Action 6 comes with a 1/1.1-inch square sensor, which is a considerable jump from the Action 5 Pro’s 1/1.3-inch sensor. Capable of taking up to high-resolution 38MP photos, the camera allows users to adjust the aperture between f2.0 for low-light performance and f4.0 for brighter conditions, which also replaces the previous fixed f2.8 lens. The Osmo Action 6 also supports up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range and 10-bit D-Log M color, making it a pretty versatile imaging option for different lighting environments.

Additionally, there’s also video recording at up to 4K resolution at 120fps, with a 360° HorizonSteady stabilization mode in the mix as well. DJI has equipped the camera with 50GB of built-in storage, which should be handy for situations where you might not have extra storage equipment available on hand. It also supports microSD cards with up to 1TB storage capacities.
As for its design, the Osmo Action 6 comes with a rugged design that’s made for the elements, and is able to withstand underwater depths up to 65.6 feet, with a built-in pressure gauge and a cold-resistant body that’s also designed to operate in temperatures as low as -4F. Other features include dual OLED touchscreens, fast charging capabilities, timecode support, and high-speed Wi-Fi file transfers.

For controls, DJI has added support for Gestures which allow users to start and stop recordings, although there’s still an option to use voice control. Audio functionality has also been expanded via DJI’s OsmoAudio ecosystem, which allows the Action 6 to directly support two DJI microphone transmitters without an external receiver, in addition to a built-in Mic Audio Backup feature which uses the camera’s three-mic array.

Other upgrades include a new 4K Custom mode that uses the full square sensor for post-recording custom crops, and enhanced shooting modes like SuperNight with new noise reduction and Starburst for night lighting effects. The DJI Osmo Action 6 is available starting at £329 for buyers in the UK.
