What's This?

If you’re a content creator looking to add a new drone to your setup, then you’re in luck—DJI recently unveiled its new Neo 2 drone, which it describes as its lightest and most compact model yet at just 151 grams. The Neo 2 also comes with omnidirectional obstacle sensing, which in theory makes it safer and easier to use overall. What else does it come with, though?

For one, the Neo 2 supports Gesture Control, allowing users to fully operate the drone (including direction, proximity, and camera angle) all with simple hand movements, which reduces the need for a remote controller for basic shots. Building on this, it also features a “Return-to-Palm” function, which allows the drone to fly from and towards a user’s hand.

For its cameras, the DJI Neo 2 is equipped with a 12MP, 1/2-inch CMOS sensor and f/2.2 aperture, and it also supports 4K video recording up to 100fps for slow motion shots. For image stabilization, the drone is equipped with a new 2-axis gimbal. One major feature of the drone is that it doubles as a personal “follow-me” camera—there’s an ActiveTrack feature with improved response and stability, so you get smooth tracking for activities like running or cycling at speeds up to 12 m/s.

There’s also a new SelfieShot feature allows users to capture hands-free solo or group moments, automatically framing and manoeuvring the camera. DJI has also included intelligent shooting modes such as a Dolly Zoom for a more cinematic “Hitchcock effect,” in addition to QuickShots (Dronie, Circle, Rocket, etc.) and MasterShots which can capture and edit diverse shots with music.

The Neo 2 comes with a flight time of up to 19 minutes and includes 49GB of internal storage, which DJI reckons is enough for around 105 minutes of 4K/60fps video. For users after a longer transmission range, the drone can be paired with the DJI RC-N3 remote controller for up to 10 km range, or with a motion controller and goggles for a more immersive FPV (first-person view) experience.

For safety, the drone comes with an omnidirectional monocular vision system that’s paired with forward-facing LiDAR and a downward infrared sensing system for real-time obstacle detection and triple protection; this also makes it easier for beginners to navigate complex environments with the Neo 2. It’s priced starting at £209, which comes with just the drone.
