What's This?

When it comes to Android phones, dedicated gaming smartphones aren’t anything new, having been popularized by the likes of ASUS’ ROG phone series, all the way to the Sony Xperia Play which made its debut more than a decade ago. That being said, more smartphone manufacturers are now leaning into releasing gaming-oriented devices, as seen with Infinix’s new GT 30 5G+. Priced at just around £220 when converted, it’s one of the more affordable gaming phones on the market, but does its low price come with compromises?

Infinix’s growing reach has pretty much focused on budget-friendly smartphones, and the GT 30 continues this trend. With that in mind, the phone is targeted at users who maybe want a bit more out of their phone, but at the same time want to stick to a certain budget. Infinix has equipped the GT 30 with some pretty good hardware, such as the 6.78-inch AMOLED display, which features a sharp 1224p resolution and up to 4500 nits pf peak brightness, and a rather smooth 144Hz refresh rate. The display is also protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.

In terms of looks, Infinix has unsurprisingly opted for a design that mirrors what you’d see in other gaming smartphones, including edgy lines and design accents all over, which it dubs as the “Cyber Mecha” design. It’s available in three different colour variants, dubbed Cyber Blue, Pulse Green, and Blade White. The right-hand side of the phone features capacitive triggers, which should come in handy especially when emulating gaming systems which might require shoulder button input for controls.

Inside, the GT 30 runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 chipset, a midrange processor that should have little trouble with most gaming titles. It’s also accompanied by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, although there’s no room for expandable micro SD storage. The phone is powered by a 5,500 mAh battery, which supports 45W charging speeds—not the fastest on the market, but decent enough especially when you consider its price.

As it’s mostly a gaming phone, the Infinix GT 30 comes with a pretty simple camera setup which includes a 64MP main camera and an 8MP ultrawide sensor, with a 13MP camera for selfies and video calls. As with all Infinix phones, the GT 30 runs on XOS (on top of Android 15), and Infinix says that it will provide two years of major Android upgrades and three years of security patches.
