What's This?

iOS 5 is chock full of new and cool things. Some obvious, and some not so much. Here are 5 quick tips that will make your life easier.

The Lock Screen Double Tap
LockScreen Camera

It used to be a pain to get to your camera on the fly. Now you can simply double-click the home button while the phone is locked and you will see a camera button new to the slide to unlock. You will also notice another addition, access to your music controls!

Pinch to Zoom Camera
As a mobile user you should be no stranger to Pinch to Zoom. Now that handy feature has been added into the camera itself. Simply Pinch the screen while viewing your potential picture to zoom in and out.

Volume Up to Take Picture

You can now use the Volume Up button to snap a picture. No more blindly fumbling for the button while trying to take a picture of you and your friends.

iPad Keyboard Options

Anytime your iPad Keyboard is open you can hold down the Keyboard Icon in the bottom right. You then have the option to undock/dock and split/merge. When you undock the keyboard you can move it up and down by dragging the keyboard icon. Alternatively you can pinch the keyboard to split or merge it. Bonus tip: In Safari you have a handy “Find on Page” attached to the keyboard.

iPad 2 Gestures

Sadly the iPad 1 didn’t get this feature. Pinch 4 fingers (with your pinky out for class and style) while in an app to return to the Home Screen. Swipe 4 fingers up or down to reveal the multitask bar (same functionality as double tapping the Home Button). Swipe 4 fingers right or left while in an app to switch between open apps.
