What's This?

With Mobile World Congress 2024 underway in Barcelona, it was only a matter of time before we managed to see some new and exciting products from some of the big names in the industry. That being said, Lenovo showed off some of its latest projects and upcoming hardware products. As with a lot of other brands and companies, Lenovo’s venture into AI technologies was also a major highlight of its presentation – Yuanqing Yang, Company Chairman and CEO comments:

“Lenovo’s suite of AI-enabled, AI-ready, and AI-optimized devices, infrastructure, solutions, and services at MWC provides a wider look at our vision for ‘AI for All’… Lenovo’s AI technology benefits organizations of all sizes, driving intelligent transformation across all industries while reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.”

Aside from AI however, Lenovo also showed off some pretty innovative hardware and software concepts at MWC 2024, which were enough to turn a lot of heads at the show.

Transparent Thinkbook Concept

Present at MWC 2024 was the Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop, a concept device which showcases the possibilities of modernized hardware design. The laptop features a 17.3-inch micro-LED display with a transparent panel and borderless screen, in addition to a transparent keyboard area which brings a more “futuristic” look to the device.

One thing that sets the laptop apart is the inclusion of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC), which lets users to work with the interface in a way that Lenovo says allows for “new avenues of work
collaboration and efficiency.” The laptop’s transparent design, in addition to the keyboard and included drawing board allow for a versatile approach to productivity. In a way it’s similar to giving users a mixed reality experience on their laptop screen, without the need for a full setup involving a headset.

This new design also builds upon Lenovo and Motorola’s earlier MWC concepts back in 2023, which showcased flexible display technology going beyond foldables and into rollable displays for smartphones.

New AI-chaged PCs and Smart Connect

Lenovo also announced its latest wave of business laptops which come equipped with Intel chips and Intel vPro, consisting of the ThinkPad T14 i Gen 5, ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2, and ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4. The laptops come with Windows 11 onboard in addition to dedicated AI acceleration support, which according to Lenovo provides users with “new and enhanced proficiencies across broad areas of usability and productivity.”

Lenovo and Motorola also worked on developing “Smart Connect,” a software solution that works by unifying digital ecosystems for a well-connected multi-device user experience. For example, users can tap into Smart Connect to switch tasks between their computer, smartphone, and even their tablet for an uninterrupted workflow, notification management, and share content. Streaming media is also easier thanks to Smart Connect, so users can start a podcast on one device and wrap up listening on another.

Additionally, users can also easily amplify everything displayed on their phones onto a bigger screen – for example, Smart Connect can easily move games, movies, shows, and apps from a smartphone to a TV for extra real screen estate for viewing and play.
