What's This?

Thin is in again, and while a lot of the bigger smartphone brands on the market have pretty much established their presence within the slim smartphone segment, there’s still a lot of room for more players on the field. Take for example Motorola, which just announced the debut of the Moto X70 Air (unsurprising name, we know), which comes with a thickness of just around 6mm.

First impressions aside though, it should be noted that this is a slim phone for more budget-conscious buyers. Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air which come with flagship-level hardware, Motorola (and Lenovo, for that matter) wants to keep things familiar with the X70 Air, much in line with the rest of its smartphone range. So much so in fact, that the handset comes with midrange hardware components which don’t mask its more affordable nature.

That’s not to say that it looks ugly—the X70 Air actually features a sleek look thanks to its slim build, with an aesthetic approach that mirrors that of other Motorola smartphones, such as with its camera island design. Speaking of which, the phone features a multi-lens setup with a 50MP main sensor, while the front also comes with a 50MP camera for selfies and video calls. It’s something we’re used to seeing in most midrange phones these days, especially with phones in this price and hardware segment.

Going over to the front, the phone packs a 6.7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, with reasonably-slim bezels all over. Unlike Motorola’s “Edge” line of smartphones, the X70 Air comes with a flat screen instead of a curved display. This is wrapped in a chassis that comes with IP68 dust and water resistance, and is available in three different colours as well. Interestingly, Lenovo’s Chinese webpage describes the phone body’s material as “Air Nanoskin”, although there’s no mention of what other materials the phone is made of.

Taking a look on the inside, the X70 Air once again shows its mid-tier status with its chipset, which in this case takes the form of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. It’s a far cry from the 8 Elite series processors that we’ve gotten on more expensive flagship devices, although the 7-series Snapdragon chipsets are pretty capable on their own. The phone also comes with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, and is powered by a 4800mAh battery with support for 68W fast charging speeds.

At this point in time, neither Lenovo or Motorola hasn’t specified any pricing or availability details, but given the overall specs sheet and Motorola’s continued avoidance of releasing top-tier flagship devices, we can probably expect the X70 Air to be much more affordable versus its more pricey rivals.
