What's This?

Building up on the success of its powerful Dimensity chip series, MediaTek recently unveiled a new premium SoC in the form of the Dimensity 8200. Designed to give users “flagship-level experiences,” the chipset comes with some rather impressive hardware, aimed at delivering top-of-the-line performance.

CH Chen, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Business Unit states:

“The MediaTek Dimensity 8200 will enhance the gaming experience on premium 5G smartphones, and will deliver smoother gameplay with higher framerates, impressive graphics, and seamless connectivity. Plus, the Dimensity 8200’s power efficiency enhancements make it so consumers don’t have to sacrifice battery life to enjoy super high performance.”

Built for Power

The Dimensity 8200 is built on a 4nm process, and features an octa-core CPU with four Arm Cortex-A78 cores operating at up to 3.1 GHz, as well as a Mali-G610 graphics engine. MediaTek says that it will be able to take on graphically-intensive games thanks to its HyperEngine 6.0 gaming tech, that allows users to experience smooth and seamless gameplay without lag, stuttering, and crashes.

This is paired with MediaTek’s Intelligent Display Sync 2.0, that can easily adapt and adjust the display refresh rate depending on your game, for smoother viewing experiences.

Impressive Imaging

In terms of optics, the chip is powered by a flagship-level Imagiq 785 ISP, allowing it to support 320-megapixel photos and 14-bit HDR video capture on up to three cameras simultaneously. The chipset is also able to record cinematic video via double camera capture for great-looking bokeh effects in video clips. Furthermore, the 8200 makes use of AI-noise reduction in low-light photos, retaining details and keeping images looking sharp even in dark or night-time environments.

Other Features

Of course, the chipset also comes with a ton of other hardware features, such as a fully-integrated 5G modem built to amplify sub-6GHz performance, support for tri-band Wi-Fi 6E, powerful AI processing for dedicated AI tasks and fusion processing, support for ray tracing effects with a Vulkan SDK, support for devices with 120Hz WQHD+ and 180Hz Full HD+ displays, and improved audio quality with LE Bluetooth and Dual-Link True Wireless Stereo Audio.
