What's This?

Apple decided not to reveal or hint anything about the iWatch at WWDC 2014, but the likelihood of Apple giving up on wearables is virtually non-existent, after Apple’s CEO Tim Cook repetitively stating new markets will be approached this year.

A new report from Nikkei, an Asian Website that has previously reported on Apple’s new products, has revealed and reiterated some information on the new iWatch, including release date and design choices.

The iWatch will feature a curved OLED display and we expect this to be a circular display. Motorola has already shown the hype surrounding a circular display and we believe Apple wants to recreate the look of old watches, offering a more premium build.

Apple will be adding touch to the iWatch, Google’s Android Wear offers touch but most interactions are done through voice recognition and contextual information from Google Now, we wonder if Siri will offer the same sort of service on the iWatch.

Health and fitness will be a big feature on the iWatch, the new HealthKit API will help out Apple Developers when making apps for the iWatch. The device will reportedly have biometrics, calorie consumption, oxygen levels and sleep activity sensors all integrated, which will be available for third parties.

Apple is preparing around three to five million units for launch in 2014, a lower number than we have heard on previous reports but one that would fit with the general market for wearables at the moment. We would expect Apple to be able to shift all units, considering the amount of hype surrounding the iWatch.

The iWatch will launch in October according to the report, but others have said September is the month Apple is looking to hit. Either way, it is still a few months off an we suspect Apple is still piecing together some of the yield rate issues, before official launch.
