What's This?

Ever since the arrival of the first few foldable devices on the consumer electronics market some years ago, smartphone manufacturers have continued to push the boundaries of what they can achieve when it comes to more flexible form factors, such as the recently-unveiled Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. That being said though, we’re seeing more brands enter the foldable Android space, such as Nubia with its new Nubia Fold.

It’s important to note though that the Nubia fold isn’t a trifold smartphone, but instead uses a more “traditional” foldable form factor like we’ve seen from the Galaxy Z Fold and Honor Magic V series, for example. When viewed in an open position with the main screen, you’d be hard-pressed to tell it apart from other foldables, although it’s a bit more distinguishable when you take a look at the colour scheme and the camera setup on the rear panel.

Speaking of the displays, the Nubia Fold comes with a main inner foldable screen which measures eight inches, which is the standard size for most foldables on the market at the moment. It is pretty sharp thanks to its 2,480 x 2,200 pixel resolution, and also comes with your standard 120Hz refresh rate. On the outside, you get a 6.5-inch cover screen with a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200 pixels. Overall, the phone weighs 249 grams and measures just 11.1mm when closed, and is protected by IP54 dust and water resistance.

Powering the Nubia Fold is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, and while it’s not the latest 8 Elite Gen 5 it remains a powerful chipset on its own. It’s accompanied by 12GB RAM and 265GB storage, although unfortunately there’s no higher memory or storage variant available; Nubia has also decided to ship the device with Android 15, although it would’ve been nice to see the phone running on the latest version 16 instead. There’s a decently-sized battery inside at 6,560mAh, and Nubia states that it can charge from zero to full in just around 70 minutes.

For its cameras, the Nubia Fold comes with a triple-camera layout with a 50MP main, 50MP ultrawide and 5MP macro camera, while selfies and video calls are handled by a pair of 20MP front cameras. The phone is now available for buyers in Japan starting at around $1,145 when converted.
