It’s been a bit of time now since the launch of OnePlus’ latest high-powered flagship phone, the OnePlus 15. For those not too familiar with it, the OnePlus 15 comes with some of the best hardware that you can get on an Android phone, although it’s also expensive. Fortunately, OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus 15R, which is a more wallet-friendly alternative that might appeal to most buyers out there.

The OnePlus 15R picks up where last year’s 13R left off, although there’s a good number of changes this time around. What can you expect though? Let’s take a look.

One big change with the 15R this year is its design—it ditches the circle-centric accents found on the 13R, and instead adopts the flatter, more angular look of its flagship brethren. Gone is the off-centre camera island, which has been replaced by a cleaner-looking module which sadly omits the telephoto lens on the 13R. Instead, the 15R features a simpler dual-camera setup, which includes a 50MP main camera and 8MP ultra-wide camera. The phone is also rated for IP69 dust and water resistance.
In front, there’s a large display which measures 6.83 inches, and is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. It’s reasonably sharp with a 2800×1272 pixel resolution, and while it does feature a standard 120Hz refresh rate OnePlus says that this can go up to 165Hz for certain apps such as games. The display also houses a front camera which comes in at 32MP.

Unlike the standard OnePlus 15 which is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, the 15R settles for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which posts slightly-lower benchmark scores versus the 8 Elite Gen 5. This is unsurprising though as the OnePlus R-series phones have always opted for somewhat less-powerful chips, without downgrading too much in the performance department. You also get a base configuration of 12GB RAM with 256GB of internal storage.
What’s actually surprising though is that the OnePlus 15R comes with a slightly-larger battery than the flagship 15 model. The more affordable device features a 7400mAh cell, which somewhat outsizes the 15’s 7300mAh battery. It charges relatively fast at 80W as well, but you’ll need a compatible SuperVOOC charger from Oneplus (or Oppo, for that matter).
