What's This?

Electric cars aren’t exactly strangers to high-speed romps, with modern EVs being able to reach speeds that their predecessors can only dream of (look at Formula E, for example). With that in mind, Porsche along with development driver Lars Kern took to stage to announce some rather impressive results with Porsche’s Pre-Series Taycan, after hitting the Nordschleife.

More specifically, Kern was able to post a lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife with the Pre-Series Taycan. By comparison, this new lap time is faster by 26 seconds compared to his last record drive back in August 2022, which was achieved in a Taycan Turbo S Sport sedan equipped with the performance package. Kevin Giek, head of the model line comments:

“Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational, putting the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars… And the impressive thing about it is that over several laps, Lars clocked almost exactly the same time.”

Speaking on the test drive himself, Kern adds that he pushed the vehicle as hard as possible. For safety purposes, Kern’s test vehicle featured a roll cage for added protection, along with racing bucket seats. Going back to the comparison with the 2022 record on the Taycan Turbo S, the pre-series car was able to exceed by a good 25 km/h speed heading into the Schwedenkreuz. Porsche adds:

“By the time Kern crossed the finish line near Grandstand 13 (T13) this time, he would have only just been passing the entrance to the Nordschleife, about to enter the Antoniusbuche section, during his record drive in the Taycan Turbo S in 2022.”

For those interested, Porsche says that an onboard video of the complete lap will be published later in March.
