What's This?

There’s certainly been no shortage of tech news this past week, and we’ve gotten a ton of new updates from some of the biggest names in the industry. As we head on into July, we’ve put together this rundown of headlines that you might want to know, just before the weekend waves goodbye—Xiaomi’s been busy launching new hardware, and we’ve also gotten some tasty new tech from Lenovo and GoPro. Let’s check them out!

Xiaomi’s Newest POCO Phone Comes with Premium Looks and Performance

Xiaomi has officially launched the latest addition to its POCO F7 series in the form of the new POCO F7, which interestingly comes much later than the launch of the POCO F7 Pro and Ultra from a while back. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip, with performance slightly close to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The phone also features 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, which maxes out at 512GB. Xiaomi says that the phone’s built-in IceLoop cooling system and AI-based thermal controls should provide optimal performance during demanding tasks like gaming, for example.

Lenovo Announces the Chromebook 14 Plus

Lenovo recently introduced the new Chromebook Plus 14, which runs on the MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 chipset. The laptop comes with a 14-inch OLED display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution and 400 nits brightness, Dolby Atmos-supported speakers, up to 17 hours of battery life, and connectivity via USB-C and USB-A ports, plus a fingerprint reader for biometrics. It also supports AI features like Smart Grouping, AI-based photo editing, and users also get a free 12-month Google AI Pro subscription (including 2TB cloud storage) for advanced features such as “Search with Lens,” “Text Capture,” and “Help Me Read.”

Samsung Announces Digital Key Support for Select Mercedes-Benz Models

Samsung has announced that its Wallet app will now support digital car keys for select Mercedes-Benz models starting in July 2025, enabling owners to use their Samsung phones to unlock, lock, and even start their vehicles. The new feature also allows users to securely share access with trusted contacts, with options to restrict permissions as needed. For enhanced security, the digital keys are embedded with EAL6+ security standards and utilize Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, while Samsung’s Find service allows remote locking or deletion of keys if a device is lost or stolen.

Xiaomi Enters the Electric SUV Arena with its New YU7

Building on its highly-successful SU7 and SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi recently unveiled the latest addition to its EV lineup in the form of the Xiaomi YU7, an electric SUV. One major highlight of the YU7 is its price—the car starts at RMB 253,500 (around £25,800 when converted), making it one of the more “affordable” EV choices on the market. Xiaomi is clearly targeting bigger names such as Tesla, especially considering this pricing scheme. In addition, the YU7 also comes in a couple more variants, including a Pro ultra-long-range AWD model at RMB 279,900 (£28,500), and the Max AWD model at RMB 329,900 (£33,580).

You Can Now Buy the GoPro Hero13 Black in a New Green Variant

GoPro has launched a new Forest Green colour variant for its Hero13 Black camera, which maintains all the core features of the standard Hero13 Black, including HyperSmooth 6.0 video stabilization, 5.3K video resolution support, extended battery life, and a durable, weather-resistant design—it’s also compatible with GoPro’s interchangeable HB-Series Lenses, featuring auto-detection. The Forest Green Hero13 Black is available for $429.99 from select retailers and GoPro’s official website, and includes a complimentary one-year GoPro Premium Subscription, though stock is limited.

Xiaomi Announces a New Foldable and Smart Glasses

In addition to its new POCO phone and electric SUV, Xiaomi also unveiled several new products, including the MIX Flip 2, a foldable phone powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and a new Pad 7s Pro tablet featuring Xiaomi’s proprietary XRING 01 chip. The company also introduced its new AI Glasses, which boast real-time translation and multimodal AI capabilities, alongside the latest iteration of its popular fitness tracker, the Xiaomi Smart Band 10.
