What's This?

The foldable market has only gotten more diverse in the past few years, and over time we’ve seen some rather impressive foldables from brands like Motorola, Oppo, and more recently, Xiaomi. That said, Samsung is looking to win back its dominance in the foldable phone market with the introduction of two new models: the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the slightly more “affordable” Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. The two phones were launched alongside the new Z Fold7 and Galaxy Watch 8 as well.

First up is the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, which starts at £849. Part of Samsung’s “Fan Edition” (hence the FE) series, the Flip7 FE maintains the core clamshell design and runs on Android 16, featuring a 50MP main camera. Given its more affordable price point, the Z Flip7 FE does come with some compromises—for one, it features a smaller cover screen compared to the Flip7’s 4.1-inch panel with a lower refresh rate as well. Considering its lower pricing, Samsung is clearly positioning the Flip7 FE to take on Motorola’s 2025 Razr models, which are likewise aimed at more modest budgets.

Inside, the Flip7 FE features a 6.7-inch 120Hz display, and runs on Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chipset with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Powering the phone is a 4,000 mAh battery with support for 25W charging speeds, which is similar to what you get on the base model Samsung Galaxy S25.

Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip7 is considerably more expensive at $1,099.99, and does feature better hardware. One key upgrade is its larger 4.1-inch external display, which also features a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 2,600 nits; inside you’ll find a larger 6.9-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, with a peak brightness of 2600 nits. For software, the phone runs on One UI 8 with Android 16, and is powered by an Exynos 2500 chipset (no Snapdragon on here unfortunately). It also supports Samsung DeX which lets you hook it up to a monitor for a more desktop-like UI approach, in addition to a ton of software exclusives from Samsung and Google, which include newer AI features like Gemini, Circle to Search and Galaxy AI.

For photography, the Galaxy Z Flip7 features a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera, with a 10MP selfie camera completing the setup. Video on the rear and front camera maxes out at 4K resolution, with either 30 or 60 frames per second. The phone also gets a slightly larger 4300 mAh battery compared to the 4000 mAh cell on the Flip7 FE, with support for 25W wired charging. With all that being said, the Z Flip7 enters a more crowded foldable market, although Samsung does have the advantage of expansive marketing and brand strength.

The new phones are now available through Samsung’s official website and retail stores, as well as various carriers and networks for buyers in the UK.
