What's This?

It seems like just yesterday when the first phones with massive silicon carbon batteries started making their way into the market, providing consumers with more capable smartphone alternatives when it came to more reliable battery endurance. That in mind, Chinese manufacturer Honor has been rather quick to adopt newer battery technology, as seen with the likes of the just-announced Magic8 Lite.

It goes without saying that the phone’s biggest highlight is its battery, which comes in at 7500mAh. For context, this is bigger than the batteries found on more expensive phones like the Pixel 10 Pro XL, Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, for example. For those unfamiliar, silicon carbon batteries such as the one in the Magic8 Lite allow for larger capacities without taking too much space, resulting in relatively-compact devices. The Magic8 Lite also charges at 66W, a decent speed but still lagging behind devices from Xiaomi, for example.

In front you’ll find a 6.79-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a resolution of 1200 x 2640 pixels. The screen tops at 1800 nits of brightness which is common for most phones, but Honor’s specs sheet states that it can go for an impressive 6,000 nits at most when under extreme brightness. It also comes with scratch-resistant glass, which is wrapped in a chassis that’s rated for drop protection from 2.5 metres, and is rated for IP69K water resistance.

It should be mentioned that the Honor Magic8 Lite is first and foremost a budget-friendly device, and this can be seen with the chipset inside. Honor has equipped the phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 (which is usually meant for affordable smartphones) along with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of built-in storage. One thing to note though is that the phone ships with Android 15, which is a bit old at this point; this of course comes topped with Honor’s own MagicOS with some exclusive apps and features.

Other features include a dual-camera setup with a 108MP main camera, which is accompanied by a 5MP ultra-wide camera; there’s also a 16MP front-facing sensor for selfies and video calls. At this moment, it should be noted that Honor hasn’t announced pricing for the UK, although the phone will be available in early 2026.
