What's This?

Honor’s X-series phones have been one of the brand’s more popular devices in its roster, boasting features like durability and premium-looking designs for not much cash. That being said, the company recently added a new model to its lineup with the Honor X70, which packs the same durable design and build, in addition to a massive 8,300 mAh battery, something that’s rarely seen on most smartphones. It’s currently exclusive for Chinese markets though, although we can expect it for more regions in the coming months.

In terms of looks, the Honor X70 resembles other Honor X-series phones, with the large circular camera module on the rear panel that’s tweaked just the right amount to differentiate itself from other similarly-designed smartphones. Honor says that the phone’s chassis has been designed to be drop resistant at a height of around 2.5 metres, and it also comes with IP69 dust and water resistance, which adds some much-welcome protection for everyday use.

As for its display, the phone comes with a 6.79-inch AMOLED display that comes with an extremely bright 6000 nits of peak brightness, in addition to a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1200×2640 pixels. It’s a flat display as well, unlike other X-series devices which tend to feature curved-edged screens. This also serves as your main portal to Magic OS 9, Honor’s proprietary Android skin which works alongside Android 15.

Taking a look inside, the Honor X70 is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, a lower-end chipset from Qualcomm that’s designed to run on more affordable devices. We wouldn’t really call this a gaming phone especially considering this setup, although it thankfully comes in a 12GB RAM version which should be more than enough space to run your apps and even some games every now and then. Don’t expect to flawlessly run Genshin Impact on here, however.

If you’re looking to get the X70 as an entertainment or streaming device however, then it’s a great choice—as we mentioned earlier, the phone comes with a massive 8,300 mAh battery which uses silicon-carbon technology, a common sight on newer smartphones these days. For context, this capacity is usually seen on tablets, with most smartphones featuring around 5000-6000 mAh capacity cells. It also supports 80W wired charging speeds, which should come in handy if you need to top up your battery quickly.

Photography isn’t exactly the phone’s strong point however, as it features a single 50MP camera on the rear, with an 8MP front camera. In a day and age where more versatile camera setups are the norm on most smartphones, this is quite interesting to see, to put it lightly. Video quality maxes out at 4K resolution at 30 fps for the main camera, and 1080p resolution for the selfie shooter.

As for its price, the Honor X70 comes in several storage configurations, which include an 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model priced at around £150, an 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant at £165, a 12GB RAM + 256GB storage model at £186, with a top-tier 12GB RAM + 512GB storage model priced at about £207.
