It’s been some weeks since its original debut in China, but it looks like Vivo has now launched the Vivo X Fold5 for more markets worldwide, and it’s clear that the company wants to compete with the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7, which was just recently announced as well. With that in mind, buyers who might not be too keen on Samsung’s approach to foldable smartphone hardware have one more option on the market with Vivo’s latest folding flagship.

As with pretty any other foldable on the market, the Vivo X Fold5 features a dual-screen setup which consists of an outer display and an internal folding screen. The external display measures 6.53 inches with a resolution of 1172 x 2748 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an impressive 5,500 nits of peak brightness. Going over on the inside, you get a larger 8-inch screen with a higher resolution of 2200 x 2480 pixels, although its brightness peaks at 4,500 nits. It does retain the 120Hz refresh rate though, and Vivo says that it’s improved the folding design for better durability.

Inside, you’ll find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset—it’s still an impressive smartphone processor, although it isn’t the most powerful entry in Qualcomm’s lineup of flagship chips, which might be an issue for buyers who are after the latest and greatest. You’re also getting up to 1TB of internal storage and 16GB of RAM inside, which might be dependent based on your market region. Powering the X Fold5 is a 6,000 mAh battery, which is significantly larger than the 4,400 mAh cell found inside the Galaxy Z Fold7. It also charges faster as well, with support for 80W charging speeds.

As for its cameras, the phone comes with a triple-camera setup on the rear, which consists of a 50MP main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultrawide lens, with support for video recording at up to 8K resolution at 30 fps. There are two selfie cameras as well, which are found on the inner and external displays—both come in at 20MP each, although video recording is at a lower 1080p resolution.

In terms of software, the foldable ships with the slightly older Android 15 platform, with Vivo’s OriginOS slapped on top, although international markets will get FunTouch OS instead. Vivo promises up to four major Android version upgrades, so you’ll be able to experience Android 19 on the X Fold5, should you keep it that long. It’s priced at around EUR 850, or £740 here in the United Kingdom.
