What's This?

Electric Vehicles have proved to be a significantly growing segment of the automobile market in the past years, with an ever-increasing grip on the industry. This has led many established auto manufacturers to follow suit, and today it’s not uncommon to see a variety of EVs from the likes of Audi, BMW, and more, in addition to more well-known EV brands such as Tesla.

Volkswagen is one such brand. Probably one of the best-known manufacturers the world over, the German company has also released a range of EVs with its “ID” range, each offering a special take on how EVs should be done. With that said though, it looks like the company is now targeting a new segment with its newest concept car.

To be more specific, the Volkswagen ID. 2all is a concept vehicle which the company says is intended to be more wallet-friendly, coming in at less than 25,000 Euros. This puts it a price bracket way below the 30-40,000 starting prices we see with most electric vehicles on the market.

While it’s not out for dealers yet, Volkswagen has listed some of the features of the car. the ID. 2all will feature a front-wheel drive set-up, a range of up to 450 km, new features such as Travel Assist, IQ.LIGHT or Electric Vehicle Route Planner, as well a new Volkswagen design language. The eventual production version will be based on the MEB Entry platform, and the company adds that it will be one of ten new models to be launched by 2026. According to Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars:

“We are transforming the company rapidly and fundamentally – with the clear objective of making Volkswagen a genuine Love Brand. The ID. 2all shows where we want to take the brand. We want to be close to the customer and offer top technology in combination with fantastic design. We are implementing the transformation at pace to bring electric mobility to the masses.”

The company says that the ID. 2all will pack an efficient drive, as well as battery and charging technology thanks to the improved MEB entry platform. The car’s electric drive motor will come with an output of 166 kW/226 PS and will have a calculated WLTP range of up to 450 kilometres.

Volkswagen adds that the ID. 2all will introduce a new design language of Volkswagen, which the company says is based on “stability,” “likeability,” and “excitement.”

The ID. 2all incorporates design elements from the first Volkswagen Golf, described by the company as “a body with a clear and powerful stance on the wheels, a friendly face, a good portion of dynamics and timeless elegance.” As for the inside, the vehicle’s interior features a clear design that combines a more modern infotainment system with more classic elements as seen with the volume control and a separate air conditioning block. In addition, the storage volume measures 490–1,330 litres.

The ID. 2all is one of ten new electric models that will be launched by Volkswagen by 2026, which will also see the introduction of the new ID.3, the ID. Buzz with long wheelbase, and the ID.7. Volkswagen adds that it will follow-up with a compact SUV by 2026, and another EV which will cost less than 20,000 Euros.
