What's This?

Going by what we’ve seen on the Android market segment over the past few years, it’s probably safe to say that tablets have pretty much made a comeback, as we’ve seen with new releases from OnePlus and more recently, Samsung. With that said, Acer is also looking to make a comeback with a major refresh of its Iconia line. Announced during IFA, the new wave of tablets includes four models, and it looks like Acer is positioning them as productivity-focused devices. Let’s take a look!

Acer Iconia X Series

Up first is the Iconia “X” series, which features upper-midrange hardware. This includes the Iconia X12 which comes with a 12.6-inch WQXGA AMOLED display, and is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G99 chipset. It’s also pretty travel-friendly, weighing at just 500 grams which should make it ideal for carrying around on long journeys. It also supports optional accessories like a keyboard and stylus, and Acer claims that its battery can last for up to 16 hours of usage.

The Iconia X14 takes things a step further with a larger 14-inch OLED display and a dedicated AI processor with a built-in Neural Processing Unit (NPU). With that in mind, this allows for “AI Smart Sensing” features such as touch-less gesture control and “Smile Camera,” which automatically captures photos when it detects a smile. Acer says that it’s also equipped the tablet with an AI Super Resolution feature, that can supposedly enhance video quality during streaming.

Acer Iconia A Series

In addition to the X line, Acer also announced the more budget-friendly Iconia A14 and A16, both of which come with the same AI processor architecture as their premium siblings. The A14 comes with a 14-inch FHD IPS display, while the A16 features a larger 16-inch FHD IPS screen. Both tablets also come with a built-in kickstand, which should come in handy for on-the-go viewing sessions. All new Iconia tablets also come equipped with Acer’s Screen Casting feature, which allows the tablets to function as wireless second monitors for laptops.
