We’re halfway through June now, and that means we’re almost halfway to the entirety of 2025 as well. And while it might feel that the days just keep rolling by, the same can be said for tech news—in fact, there have been a ton of major announcements over the past week, and we’ve gathered some tasty tidbits for you to indulge in, just before the week starts again. So hang on tight, fire up that screen, and catch up on some of the biggest headlines this week.
Apple’s Big Glassy Makeover

Apple’s annual WWDC conference took place this week, and while the company didn’t say too much on the ongoing crisis with its AI and Siri efforts, it nevertheless managed to steal the spotlight with some big announcements, one of which was the company’s new naming schemes for its OS platforms. Apple says that these will be numbered at “26” moving forward—this includes iOS 26, iPadOS 26, WatchOS 26, and so on. Another big announcement was the debut of Apple’s “Liquid Glass” software design language, which features some new animation techniques such as a glossier look and feel. It’s still under beta, at the moment.
Microsoft Enters the Handheld Arena

Microsoft finally bit the bullet and announced its first-ever (and proper) gaming handheld with the ROG Xbox Ally series, a pair of gaming devices made in collaboration with ASUS. There’s the ROG Xbox Ally which comes with modest specs, although you can also opt for a more souped-up Xbox Ally X which supports a higher 1080p resolution display. Both devices do look very similar with 7-inch displays with 120Hz refresh rates, and a design that borrows heavily from ASUS’ “standard” ROG Ally handhelds, albeit with sizeable grips included in the mix. They launch later during the holiday season.
BYD Wants to Win Over Compact Car Lovers with the Dolphin Surf

During a big launch event earlier this past week in London, BYD recently unveiled the “Dolphin Surf,” which it describes as its most compact EV to date. Don’t let its small size fool you however, as it comes with some considerable muscle—measuring approximately 157 inches in length, 68 inches in width, and 63 inches in height, the car runs on a 30kWh battery, which supports DC fast charging at up to 85kW. BYD adds that the vehicle can reach a range of up to 200 miles on a single charge, and is capable of 175Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 11.1 seconds. It starts at £18,650.
RedMagic’s New Gaming Tablet is Surprisingly Impressive

Known in China as the “RedMagic Tablet 3 Pro,” ZTE’s new RedMagic Astra Gaming Tablet comes with hardware and software features designed to win over gamers—this includes a rather bold-looking design, which integrates an aluminium frame and an aluminium back, and even a built-in RGB lighting system which does give it a more “unique” look. Under the hood, the tablet runs on Android 15 with Redmagic OS 10.5, and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which is literally the best flagship grade chip that Qualcomm has to offer, at least at this point in time.
