What's This?

Following the launch of devices like the new OnePlus Pad 3 and the 4th-generation Lenovo Legion Tab, it’s probably safe to say that the Android tablet segment has been steadily improving over the past couple of years. In fact, we’re seeing a few more brands try their hands at offering more competent tablets, such as ZTE’s latest effort, the RedMagic Astra Gaming Tablet.

Known in China as the “RedMagic Tablet 3 Pro,” the Astra Gaming Tablet comes with hardware and software features designed to win over gamers—this includes a rather bold-looking design, which integrates an aluminium frame and an aluminium back, and even a built-in RGB lighting system which does give it a more “unique” look. For thermal management, the tablet is equipped with RedMagic’s “ICE X” cooling system, which includes an illuminated cooling fan that should keep things cool even during intense gaming marathons.

Up front, the tablet uses a display that features a 9.06-inch LTPO OLED screen with a smooth 165Hz refresh rate, a size that makes it a bit more travel-friendly especially when compared to the myriad of larger Android tablets out there. It’s also reasonably sharp with a resolution of 1504 x 2400 pixels with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which should make it ideal for both gaming and Netflix binges. Under the hood, the RedMagic Astra runs on Android 15 with Redmagic OS 10.5, and is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which is literally the best flagship grade chip that Qualcomm has to offer, at least at this point in time.

The tablet comes in different memory and storage configurations, starting at 256GB with 12GB RAM, in addition to 512GB with 16GB RAM, and a top-tier model with 1TB of storage and 24GB RAM. For photography, the Astra features a single 13 MP wide main camera with LED flash, HDR, and panorama support. The front-facing selfie camera comes in at 9MP and can record video at 1080p at 30 frames per second.

As for endurance, the RedMagic Astra is powered by a pretty large 8,200 mAh battery with support for 80W wired fast charging, which means you can pretty much game for a considerable amount of time, or even keep the device running for a day or two with light to moderate use. It’s priced at around 490-500 EUR, and launches for global markets on 1st July.
