While some might argue that Chromebooks aren’t the most powerful laptops in the industry right now, there’s no denying that they’re pretty versatile machines given their technical limitations, although every now and then there are a few out there that manage to stand out from the rest. It looks like Lenovo is going after this approach with the launch of the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, which comes with some pretty sweet hardware and software features.

One key feature of the Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 is its MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 chipset, making it the most powerful ARM chip ever used in a Chromebook. In terms of specs, the Kompanio Ultra 910 features a setup consisting of a Cortex-X925 core, three Cortex-X4s, and four Cortex-A720s, paired with an ARM Immortalis-G295 MC11 GPU. There’s also an NPU that can run at up to 50 TOPS for on-device AI tasks.

The Chromebook Plus 14 comes with a 14-inch OLED display with a 1920 x 1200px resolution and 400 nits of brightness, with a 60Hz refresh rate. It’s not exactly the most spectacular display on a laptop, but given the rest of the hardware that it comes with, it should be enough for most use cases such as homework and school projects, and maybe even a bit of content streaming every now and then. For entertainment, you’re also getting speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and up to 17 hours of battery life on a single charge, according to Lenovo. You’re also getting two USB-C ports, a single USB-A port and a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio; Lenovo has also added a fingerprint reader for biometric security purposes.

Like most smartphones nowadays, Lenovo has equipped the Chromebook Plus 14 with built-in AI features—there’s “Smart Grouping” which automatically organizes tabs and documents based on their content, and AI-based photo editing via the Gallery app. With Google AI Pro, Chromebook Plus users can access AI features such as Google’s Select to “Search with Lens” and “Text Capture” for image-based tasks, a new “Insert Key” which can generate images and emojis from text prompts, and “Help Me Read” which summarizes text for easy reading.
