A while back, Amazon announced the launch of its first-ever colour-screened eReader, the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. As you can probably tell from the name, its biggest feature is the newer display, which unlike older Kindle models can now finally display colour pages, making it ideal for comic books, graphic novels, and other media which are intended to be consumed with more than just black-and-white text.

With that being said, it looks like Amazon wants to expand its colour-display lineup, with the launch of two new models, the “new” 16GB Kindle Colorsoft and the Kindle Colorsoft Kids. The new Kindle Colorsoft (16 GB) is now available for £239.99, and includes a three-month subscription to Kindle Unlimited. It pretty much comes with all the usual features of previous Kindles alongside the newer high-contrast Colorsoft display.

Amazon’s added a new Page Color feature allows users to invert text and background colours for a reading experience that’s more akin to “dark mode”. Users can also highlight text in different colours like yellow, orange, blue, and pink, in addition to other filtering options for a bit of added functionality for note-takers. Other features include faster page turns, an adjustable warm light, and weeks’ worth of battery life. Like the first Colorsoft model, the newer 16GB variant also comes with a seven-inch display, which keeps it pretty compact still.

Priced at £259.99, the Kindle Colorsoft Kids is Amazon’s first-ever colour Kindle designed for younger users, and likewise retains the seven-inch display found on the other models. This variant comes with an illustrated cover for kids, as well as a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, and a two-year “worry-free” guarantee. Amazon adds that the Kindle Colorsoft Kids gives young readers access to popular series like Big Nate and Harry Potter, and other age-appropriate graphic novels and comics. Other features include Vocabulary Builder and Word Wise for learning new words, the OpenDyslexic font, and Bluetooth connectivity for audiobooks.

Parents can also choose between “Fantasy River” or “Starlight Reading” covers, and Amazon’s built-in Parent Dashboard provides tools for managing content, reviewing reading activity, and setting device bedtimes. Users also get access to Amazon Kids+, which now comes with new chapter books from The Treehouse series, The InvestiGators, and Marcus Rashford’s The Breakfast Club Adventures, in addition to thousands of books and audiobooks for young readers.
