It’s finally official—following months of rumors and countless internet debates, Samsung has announced its latest addition (of sorts) to its “Edge” series of devices with the Galaxy S25 Edge. Notable for being the company’s slimmest smartphone in a while, the S25 Edge comes with both new and familiar hardware and software elements.

That being said, the Galaxy S25 Edge comes in a slender 5.8mm chassis and weighs at just 163 grams, making it one of the thinnest mobile phones ever. It does retain the general Galaxy formula, although it ditches the triple-camera setup in lieu of a dual-sensor system instead. Samsung says that it has designed the phone to be relatively durable though, with a titanium frame surrounding the edges of the phone, as well as Corning’s Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 which protects the 6.7-inch AMOLED display on the front.

Beating inside the phone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which is also available on the rest of the Galaxy S25 series. According to Samsung, it’s also designed the phone with a tweaked vapour chamber that’s a bit thinner than on other devices. Whether or not this severely impacts its overall performance remains to be seen, but we wouldn’t blame naysayers who have their own reservations about the S25 Edge’s performance.
As mentioned earlier, Samsung has cut down the number of cameras on the rear of the Galaxy S25 Edge down to a pair of sensors, led by a 200MP main wide-angle lens. Samsung says that its larger pixel size is useful for capturing images with up to 40% enhanced brightness in dimly lit environments, which should come in handy for low-light shots (at least on paper). Additionally, the 12MP ultra-wide sensor also comes with autofocus functionality for detailed macro shots; in front, there’s a 12MP sensor for selfies and video calls.

Other camera software features include Samsung’s ProVisual Engine with enhancements for capturing detail in elements such as textiles and foliage and natural and lifelike skin tone reproduction in portraiture. Galaxy AI-powered editing features including tools such as Audio Eraser and Drawing Assist which are likewise present on the S25 Edge. For software, you’re getting Android 15 layered with Samsung’s One UI 7 on top, in addition exclusive apps and software services from Samsung, and Google’s AI products like Gemini.
Due to its thinner size, the Galaxy S25 Edge comes with a smaller battery—if you were expecting a silicon carbon cell inside though, you might be disappointed as Samsung has stuck to a more basic 3,900 lithium-ion battery on the handset. In a day and age where most smartphones come with 4,000+ batteries, it’s a bit worrying to see the company turn back the clocks in terms of battery. Charging speeds top out at 25W, which isn’t particularly fast.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is available for pre-order starting on May 12th, with general availability scheduled for May 30th, 2025. The Galaxy S25 Edge is priced starting at $1,099.99 for the 256GB storage configuration and $1,219.99 for the 512GB option, with Titanium Silver, Titanium Jetblack, and Titanium Icyblue colour variants.
