What's This?

The integration of modern artificial intelligence on today’s smart devices has pretty much had a straight trajectory over the past couple of years, with more and more mobile phone manufacturers developing new ways to juice up newer products with generative AI capabilities. As such, OnePlus recently outlined its future direction for AI, focusing on personalized software solutions for users, a new OnePlus AI brand identity and a series of AI features covering everything from productivity, creativity, all the way to security.

In addition to this, OnePlus also provided further details regarding the Plus Key, which will replace the old alert slider that’s been present on countless OnePlus flagship devices over the years. The Plus Key will be customizable and will give users quick access to AI features, in addition to other select app shortcuts. The button will appear first on the OnePlus 13S (which is exclusive for select markets in Asia) and newer phones throughout the rest of 2025.

As it’s basically an evolution of the Alert Slider (similar to Apple’s Action Button), the Plus Key is programmable for different actions, including adjusting sound profiles, launching the camera, initiating translations, or starting recordings. Users can also activate the Plus Key to access AI Plus Mind, a new feature designed for capturing, cataloging, and recalling on-screen information on OnePlus devices.

With this, users can then save information such as schedules, event details, reservations, or listings by pressing the Plus Key or performing a three-finger swipe gesture. AI Plus Mind is designed to save relevant on-screen content to a dedicated Mind Space, which organizes important user info under a single location within their smartphone.

As with a lot of other AI-based assistants and models, AI Plus Mind can also analyze content contextually—for example, it can extract schedule details from images or text and add them to a user’s calendar. Additionally, future updates this year will include automatic categorization of saved content within AI Plus Mind. AI Plus Mind will make its debut on the OnePlus 13s and the rest of the OnePlus 13 Series, with a wider expansion to follow soon.

Other AI features that OnePlus is bringing over include AI VoiceScribe that can record, summarize, and translate calls and meetings directly within messaging, video, and online meeting apps, AI Call Assistant which will offer options for automatic Call Summaries or real-time Call Translation during calls, AI Translation which consolidates text, live voice, camera-based, and screen translation capabilities into a single app, AI Search, AI Reframe for photo editing, and AI Best Face 2.0, which works similarly to Google’s “Best Take” feature.

Speaking of Google, OnePlus adds that it’s been working on deeper integration with Google Gemini—with that in mind, Gemini will soon work across OxygenOS applications, including OnePlus Notes and Clock, as well as Google’s applications. Meanwhile, Gemini Live will allow users to have real-time conversations about content captured by their camera and displayed on their phone screen.
