What's This?

While Samsung is more known for its Galaxy smartphone product line, the South Korean electronics manufacturer also sells a ton of other electronic appliances for home living, and even gaming. Samsung’s Odyssey line of gaming desktop monitors is one of its most-touted products, and Samsung has recently made one of its most premium OLED displays available in more countries.

More specifically, Samsung announced that its Odyssey OLED G9 gaming monitor (G95SC) will now be available for purchase in more regions worldwide. The company states that the. monitor’s display quality has been improved thanks to “next-level AI upscaling technology.” It takes over for last year’s Odyssey OLED G8 monitor, and packs some sweet additional features as well. According to Hoon Chung, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics:

“Last year, Samsung addressed the demands and expectations of even the most experienced gamers with the launch of the Odyssey OLED G8. With the introduction of the Odyssey OLED G9, equipped with unrivaled picture quality, we are excited to offer our customers these powerful gaming monitors and raise the bar for OLED gaming.”

The Odyssey G9 measures 49 inches in size, and features a 1800R curvature, in addition to offering Dual Quad High Definition (DQHD; 5,120 x 1,440) resolution with a 32:9 ratio. Samsung says that this display layout is equivalent to two QHD screens placed side by side. The Odyssey G9 also comes with a 0.03ms gray-to-gray (GtG) response time, and a 240Hz refresh rate for smoother visual quality when gaming.

In terms of design, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 comes with a slim chassis constructed with metal. The monitor’s rear panel features CoreSync and Core Lighting+ which both use advanced lighting technology to match any colours that are rendered on screen, making for a more immersive visual experience. There are also stereo speakers onboard which handle audio duties.

Inside the G9 is Samsung’s Neo Quantum Processor Pro, which the company says gives it an advantage versus competing OLED monitors. The processor allows the display to use a deep learning algorithm to analyse images and automatically upscale the display to adjust brightness while simultaneously amplifying contrast settings. This enables the monitor to restore visual detail when displaying images.

The Odyssey G9 also comes with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which Samsung says enhances user gaming experience thanks to DisplayHD True Black 400. This allows the monitor to render clearer details and vivid colours when watching content or playing games.

Interestingly, the Odyssey OLED G9 series also includes the G93SC model, which comes with the same hardware specs but omits the built-in smart software features including Samsung’s Gaming Hub, if you’re strictly after the display itself. The Odyssey OLED G9 (G95SC) will be available for purchase internationally starting June 12, 2023, although regional availability may vary.
