What's This?

Despite the Sony Xperia Z1 only getting an official announcement at IFA one week ago, new reports show Sony has already designed the next version of the smartphone, called the Sony Xperia Z2 (codenamed Avatar).

The Sony Xperia Z2 is expected to look similar to the Xperia Z1, with Sony never really changing the design of their smartphones massively. The display on the Xperia Z2 will be the killer feature, with Sony set to add a 5.2-inch Triluminous display at 500ppi.

Currently, HTC still holds the title for the highest pixel per inch, with 468ppi on the HTC One. This new display technology would crush the HTC One, but the question is what will it do to battery life.

Sony is also expected to pack the 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM and 3200mAh battery. This battery may be good for the current generation devices, but for one with a 500ppi screen, it may be a little lacklustre.

The Sony Xperia Z2 will also come with the same 20.7MP sensor, with OIS and 4K video support. The latest version of Android should be running on the device, expected to be KitKat 4.4 when the device is revealed.

As for the launch date, the report also mentions it will be available at CES 2014, in January. An odd time, considering this would give the Xperia Z1 a few months lifespan before getting outdated by the Xperia Z2.
