What's This?

Sony have announced it’s new Xperia model, ZR and well it’s just shy of being awesome. With a small amount of buzz behind this release the one major selling point that they’re really hammering home is that you can take photos, and HD video 5 ft underwater. Yes, 5ft waterproofing. So if you ever forget to take your phone out of your shorts when swimming, you are safe, and not only that you can take photos whilst you’re swimming about.

The new Xperia whilst being ultracool in features is not too shabby to look at either, which is something you come to expect from Sony. It also contains a 13-megapixel camera and Exmor RS image sensor which means stunning photos on dry land as well as underwater. It also doesn’t shy away from the markets standards packing a Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5GHZ CPU, 2GB RAM and  NFC / LTE radio tech. The only outlying piece of spec is the Android 4.1 Jellybean it’s running, an old Android version. All of this though is jammed into a 4.6-inch OLED screen, which Sony insists will decrease glare even when in the dreaded sunlight. This is yet to be externally confirmed but this could be pretty snazzy if so.

With Sony’s adverts mainly pushing it’s waterproof phone front, I’m not sure it’d be great to go down to the local pool to take pictures, I’m pretty sure that’s illegal in majority of countries. But at the seaside, that’s another story. As Sony keeps pushing it’s phones upwards in quality and tech we’re excited to see what they come up with next, could this see the start of the waterproof phone trend? The phone will be released in 4 different colours - – Black, Blue, Pink and Cyan but there is no plans for the phone to hit the UK anytime soon. This is probably so they don’t dilute the Xperia Z sales and such, but currently there is no need to worry about your Xperia Z becoming out of date just yet! So not to worry!
