What's This?

Remember the Huawei Watch 5? Originally launched a few months ago, Huawei has now announced a couple of new colour options for its current flagship smartwatch line, which were recently spotted online. As such, the new variants are dubbed “Aurora Green” and “Galaxy Blue,” and are now currently available for pre-order for interested buyers, and will ship starting on the 22nd of August.

With that being said, the new Galaxy Blue color option is exclusive to the larger 46mm model, which features a 1.43-inch display and comes with a unique denim-style strap. Meanwhile, the Aurora Green option is available for the smaller 42mm model, which has a 1.32-inch screen and comes with a fluororubber strap. Pre-orders for both new colours are open now through Huawei’s Vmall online store.

Let’s revisit some of the specifications of the Huawei Watch 5—in addition to the new colours, the Watch 5 series is also available in purple, silver, brown (titanium) and black (stainless steel) designs for the 46mm variant, while its smaller sibling comes in beige, sand gold, white and green (stainless steel) versions. The watches are also rated for 5ATM water resistance and IP69 dust and water protection, with a LTPO 2.0 AMOLED touch screen that peaks at 3,000 nits for outdoor viewing.

For device navigation, there’s a rotating crown in addition to an action button, a common control setup found on many smartwatches nowadays. One key feature is the new HUAWEI X-TAP sensor, which combines ECG, PPG, and a 10-level Tactile Sensor into a single button, which is something not available on older Huawei watch models.

For battery, Huawei claims that the larger watch can last for up to 4.5 days of regular use and up to 11 days on battery-saver mode, while the smaller variant can go for up to three days with typical usage and seven days on battery-saver mode. For connectivity, there’s Bluetooth 5.2 in addition to WiFi 6 and GNSS for navigation purposes. The Huawei Watch 5 also packs a ton of hardware sensors designed to track a wide range of data, including an acceleration sensor, gyroscope sensor, compass sensor, and an advanced Optical heart rate sensor 6.0 for accurate pulse monitoring.

For software, you’re not getting Wear OS as the watches feature Huawei’s Harmony OS, much like its previous watch models. The OS includes a multitude of different workout modes (more than a hundred according to Huawei), and customizable watch faces as well.
