We’ve gotten quite a number of smartphone launches in the past several days—there’s Vivo’s new high-end camera phone, Honor’s power-packed midranger, and even a new budget-friendly option from Oppo. Following suit, Xiaomi has taken to stage to announce its newest addition to the POCO line with the new POCO M7 Pro. A more budget-friendly model, it offers a more affordable alternative to the POCO F7 line which was launched a while back.

Let’s take a look at the hardware—in front, there’s room for a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen which comes with a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 2,100 nits of peak brightness which should be ideal for outdoor viewing, and most day-to-day use cases such as web browsing, content streaming, and even gaming. It’s also covered by Gorilla Glass 5, a nice surprise for a device within this price range. You also get stereo speakers as well as a polycarbonate design that’s available in three different colours including Silver, Purple and Green (no black option unfortunately).
Inside, the M7 Pro runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7025 Ultra chip, which is paired with a choice of either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. It’s a capable-enough chip and we’d imagine that it will be able to handle most games that you throw at it. There’s also 256GB of storage built in, and this whole system is powered by a 5,110 mAh battery. It’s not an incredibly large capacity such as the ones that we’re getting nowadays from most manufacturers, but should still be enough to last most users a day or two. There’s also 45W charging support onboard which again is not groundbreaking, but welcome nonetheless.

In terms of photography, the POCO M7 Pro features a 50MP main camera that uses a Sony IMX882 sensor with both optical and electronic image stabilization. Additionally, there’s also support for 2X in-sensor zoom, and this camera is rounded out by a 20MP front camera for selfies and video calls. Video recording isn’t impressive though as the rear camera can only shoot footage at a maximum of 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second, while the front camera is limited to 720p video at 30 fps as well.
