What's This?

Not too long after unveiling its new additions to its X200 smartphone lineup, smartphone maker Vivo also announced the arrival of two new tablets with the Vivo Pad5 Pro and Vivo Pad SE, both of which are aimed at different audiences, with different prices to boot. Starting for around 300 and 100 GBP (when converted), both devices come with some key differences—let’s take a look.

First up is the more premium of the duo, the Vivo Pad5 Pro. Like most modern Android tablets it does come with a sleek metal design which houses a large 13-inch display, and is available in several colour options including Cold Star Gray, Spring Tide Blue, Cloud Pink and a Feather Light White variant that’s also physically lighter than the others. The tablet is equipped with a 13MP rear camera in addition to an 8MP camera in front.

The Pad5 Pro’s screen uses an LCD panel, so there’s no OLED tech on here unfortunately. Nevertheless, it does get pretty bright with a peak of 1,200 nits, a sharp resolution of 3,096 x 2,064 pixels, as well as a 144Hz refresh rate which should provide an enjoyable viewing experience especially for movies and games. This also serves as your window to Origin OS 5 HD, which Vivo says is designed to give users a more desktop-like experience compared to more “standard” Android UIs.

Inside, the Pad5 Pro is powered by the Dimensity 9400 chip, a flagship processor designed by MediaTek. It’s available in different memory and storage configurations with a choice of either 8, 12, or 16GB of RAM, and 128 up to 512GB of internal storage. Vivo has also included a built-in cooling system with the tablet which should allow it to run intensive apps and games without much trouble. There’s a large 12,050 mAh battery inside as well, which supports 66W charging speeds.

Up next is the Vivo Pad SE, which Vivo markets primarily as a device designed for students. It comes with a slightly-smaller 12.3-inch LCD display, which features a resolution of 2464 x 1600 pixels. Since it is a more budget-oriented device, it comes with a lower 90hz refresh rate although this should be enough for casual users, which are the intended target market for the Pad SE. The tablet also comes with Origin OS 5 HD along with pre-installed educational apps for younger users, although it’s powered by a more modest Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset.

This lower price is seen across the tablet’s other specs, which include a more modest 6GB of RAM (although there’s an option for 8GB), a choice of either 128 or 256GB of storage, and a simpler 5MP camera on both the front and back of the device. The tablet’s overall battery capacity has been lowered as well down to 8,500 mAh, with a much slower 15W charging speed.
