What's This?

Xiaomi’s habit of pumping out countless devices throughout any given year is certainly commendable, and the Chinese tech giant recently announced two new premium-grade tablets to its roster in the form of the Xiaomi Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro, which at first glance don’t seem that all different from each other. Take a look under the hood though, and there are some key differences between the two devices.

In terms of overall looks and design, the Xiaomi Pad 8 and 8 Pro share a lot of similarities. For one, both tablets have 11.2-inch displays in front, both of which use LCD panels. They also come with the same 2136 x 3200 pixel resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 800 nits—that being said though, it would have been nice to see an OLED panel on the Pro model to give it a bit more “oomph” compared to the standard variant, but we digress. You’re also getting stylus support on the Pad 8 and its Pro sibling, which is a much-welcome feature to have.

They even come with the same design, with some slight difference in terms of colour variants. But the biggest difference between the two tablets are the processors inside—while both run on Qualcomm chips, Xiaomi has decided to go with the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite for the Pad 8 Pro, versus the somewhat lower-tier Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 for the regular Pad 8. The Pro model also comes with a higher spec’d configuration that maxes out at 16GB of RAM with 512GB storage, while the regular Pad 8 maxes out at 256GB storage with 12GB of RAM.

One minor difference is with regards to charging speeds—both devices come with the same 9,200 mAh capacity battery, although the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro can charge at a faster 67W speed, versus the 45W charging on the standard Pad 8. ON the software front though, both devices come with the same HyperOS 3 skin from Xiaomi, which is based on Android 16.

Given its “Pro” moniker, it’s also somewhat understandable that the Pad 8 Pro comes with slightly better camera hardware as well. There’s a 50MP + 32MP camera combo on the rear and front, respectively, which outsize the lower-resolution 13MP + 8MP setup on its more affordable sibling. both tablets do support 4K video capture though.

As for price, the regular Xiaomi Pad 8 will cost you around 250 EUR, while the Pro variant comes with a slightly more expensive price at around 350 EUR (with converted pricing). It’s important to note however that both tablets aren’t available globally at the moment, but we can expect Xiaomi to expand availability in the coming months.
