Apple’s M5-Powered 14-inch MacBook Pro is Now Official

Apple’s been busy today—alongside the launch of its new Vision Pro model and iPad Pro models, the Cupertino tech giant finally announced its new 14-inch MacBook Pro, which features its new M5 chip. Much like the 2025 iPad Pro M5, Apple says that the new MacBook Pro 14 is designed to deliver faster performance, greater capability, and a significant increase in on-device artificial intelligence processing.

Available in Space Black and Silver, the M5 MacBook Pro comes with a Liquid Retina XDR display with a peak HDR brightness of 1600 nits, in addition to to 1000 nits of brightness for SDR content. Apple also offers the display with a nano-texture option, and users can even drive up to two high-resolution external displays in addition to their laptop. The 2025 MacBook Pro 14 also features a 12MP Center Stage camera, a six-speaker sound system, and packs a 72.4Wh battery inside, which based on usage can last for up to 24 hours.

For connectivity, the new laptop comes with offers extensive connectivity options, including three Thunderbolt 4 (USB-C) ports with support for charging, DisplayPort, and data transfer speeds up to 40Gb/s via both Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4. In addition to the Thunderbolt ports, the M5 Pro also packs a dedicated SDXC card slot, an HDMI port for external displays, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a MagSafe 3 port for charging.

For software, the new MacBook Pro comes with macOS Tahoe, in addition to a number of Apple’s latest AI features. Going back to the M5 chip though, the company says that the M5 comes with a redesigned GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core, which can provide up to 3.5x faster AI performance and up to 1.6x faster graphics than the M4 chip. The M5 also has a faster CPU, an enhanced Neural Engine, and higher memory bandwidth to accelerate tasks from launching applications to running large language models (LLMs) locally.

Apple adds that the M5 chip’s advanced components are central to its improved performance. The new 10-core GPU, for example is cited as offering up to 6x faster AI performance than the M1 chip, and its 10-core design offers up to 20 percent faster multithreaded performance than the M4 for demanding tasks. Buyers can now pre-order the new 14-inch MacBook Pro starting at £1,599 with shipping to start on Wednesday, October 22.
