What's This?

As far as Android tablets go, it’s safe to say that we’re a long way from the old days of cheap and laggy devices, with more and more manufacturers now pushing out more capable and premium hardware for buyers, such as in the case of Oppo. More specifically, the company announced the launch of its new Oppo pad 5, which was revealed alongside the new Find X9 and Find X9 Pro flagship phones. Much like its pocket-sized siblings, the Pad 5 comes with some pretty impressive hardware as well.

As far as design goes, the Oppo Pad 5 resembles a lot of other modern tablets, with a minimalist look and slim bezels all around. It’s available in a handful of different colours including purple, silver and grey, and is built with an aluminium unibody. The Pad 5 also features a quad-speaker setup around the sides, although much like other modern tablets it lacks an SD card slot and 3.5mm headphone jack. The back of the tablet features an 8MP camera, while another 8MP selfie camera is housed in front.

Speaking of what’s in front, the Pad 5 features a large 12.1-inch display with a resolution of 3000×2120 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, which should make it ideal for content consumption and productivity tasks which might require large screen real estates. One thing to note is that the device comes with an LCD panel instead of an OLED display, which might be a dealbreaker for some users. On the other hand, this isn’t too surprising especially given its sub-500 quid pricing.

Taking a look inside, the Oppo Pad 5 runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400+ processor, and is available in several memory and storage options which include 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, up to a more spacious 16GB RAM and 512GB variant. For software, you are getting exclusive Oppo apps and services courtesy of ColorOS 16, which itself runs on top of Android 16. The tablet is also powered by a massive 10420 mAh battery with support for 67W fast charging speeds.

Going back to its price, the Oppo Pad 5 takes aim at other devices including the base model iPad and Xiaomi’s new Pad 8 series, both of which start at under 500 pounds here in the UK. That being said, we’re still waiting for Oppo to announced global availability for the new tablet.
